In the largest suburban office lease of the year, Zebra Technologies Corp. is moving its headquarters to a 230,000-square-foot space in Lincolnshire.
Zebra is taking a portion of about 1.2 million square feet of north suburban space that insurance brokerage conglomerate Aon and human resources specialist Hewitt Associates Inc. — which Aon acquired in 2010, when Aon was still based in Chicago — have vacated or put on the sublease market in recent years, said tenant broker Richard Schuham of Studley Inc., co-manager of the New York firm's Chicago office. That amounts to about 5 percent of the Lake County submarket, said Mr. Schuham, who was not involved in the deal.
Aon's extra space has “had one of the biggest (negative) impacts on absorption in the north suburbs in recent years, if not the biggest,” Mr. Schuham said.
The Zebra deal is “a good thing for one of the most heavily impacted suburbs, but it's not a game-changer,” Mr. Schuham said.Zebra to move HQ in year's biggest suburban office lease
