British law firm Allen & Overy LLP is in negotiations to nearly double the size of its District offices in a move to 1101 New York Ave. NW, filling part of a larger void created there when New York’s Dewey & LeBoeuf LLPfiled for bankruptcy and closed its local offices earlier this year.

Allen & Overy has signed a letter of intent to lease 52,000 square feet of former Dewey space, according to Studley Inc. Executive Vice President Tom Fulcher, who is representing the firm in its negotiations. Despite a sluggish economic outlook, Allen & Overy is in growth mode, hiring nearly 30 local lawyers since planting its flag in D.C. in summer 2011. ...
