Savills Studley Relocates Peace Corps Headquarters

07 December 2017

Savills Studley, the leading commercial real estate firm specializing in tenant representation, has completed a 173,000-square-foot lease to relocate the Peace Corps headquarters to 1275 First Street NE, also known as One Constitution Square, in Washington, DC in 2019.

After two decades at 1111 20th Street NW, the Peace Corps will leave its West End submarket space to join the Department of Justice; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and other federal agencies in the NoMa district. One Constitution Square is conveniently located at the corner of First Street and N Street, providing immediate access to metro, hotels, restaurants, retail and luxury apartments. The Peace Corps will occupy floors two through seven of the twelve-story, 350,000-square-foot office building.

“The new, modern headquarters will enhance our agency’s efficiency and productivity,” Peace Corps Chief Executive Officer Sheila Crowley said in a separate press release. “The NoMa building is Platinum LEED certified and will include much-needed conferencing facilities, teaming rooms, and media centers to increase opportunities for communication and collaboration across our overseas and domestic offices. The move to a green, thoughtfully configured space will allow our dedicated staff to better serve the public and fulfill the Peace Corps’ mission of promoting world peace and friendship.”

In another release issued by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), which manages real estate for the government, Public Buildings Service Regional Commissioner for the National Capital Region Mary Gibert said, “GSA is pleased to provide the Peace Corps with a flexible and efficient long term solution to their housing requirements while achieving competitive terms and a reduction in their utilization rate.”

“We examined several existing buildings and new construction sites throughout the city to identify the best real estate solution for the Peace Corps,” said Savills Studley Corporate Managing Director Todd Valentine, who brokered the deal. “One Constitution Square proved to be ideally located and favorable to meeting the agency’s growth and operational needs.”

Savills Studley provides federal, state and local government clients with sophisticated and innovative real estate solutions. Ranging from several hundred feet in remote rural locations to millions of square feet, the firm has completed transactions, including leases, build-to-suits for both ownership and leasing, lease terminations and asset dispositions, in all 50 states and most overseas territories.
