One of the city’s most renowned brokerage teams has joined Studley from the John Buck Company (JBC). Led by Executive Vice President Greg Gerber, who returns to the firm after 12 years, the four person group will advise commercial space users in the Chicago market as well as counsel clients on corporate transactions throughout the U.S. The announcement was made today by Studley Chairman & CEO Mitchell S. Steir.
“Only a few weeks into the new year and we are off to a great start,” said Steir. “We are pleased Greg has returned home. His commitment only underscores the strength of the Studley platform and enhances the company’s dominant position in the marketplace.”
Joining Mr. Gerber are Sarah Cogswell and Chris Tarzon, managing directors, and Scott Merz, assistant director. The team’s move follows the JBC’s recent decision to exit the tenant advisory services business.
“We value the contributions Greg and his team have made to JBC over the years and are especially grateful for Greg’s dedication to the firm’s civic endeavors,” said Mr. Buck. “But this was a strategic, corporate decision to narrow our focus and concentrate our efforts on the investment and fund business.”
At Studley, Mr. Gerber will lead his team as they continue to work with corporate clients, not-for-profit organizations and private partnerships in developing real estate strategies that improve the efficiency and quality of work space and reduce real estate and occupancy-related expenses. In addition, he will lead Studley’s young professional mentoring program in Chicago.
Mr. Gerber points to Studley’s unique position in the market as the driving factor in his decision to return saying, “Studley’s core business is aligned with our practice. It’s a natural fit. We look forward to harnessing the firm’s global platform to provide a broader range of services to our clients.”
Mr. Gerber, a 30-year industry veteran, previously ran the JBC’s Strategic Advisory Group and was Principal-in-Charge of the firm’s civic endeavors. While there, he gained invaluable insight in the areas of commercial real estate finance, acquisition and property development, and, as a result, successfully served notable clients including Aon, Chase, CNA, Greenberg Traurig, Madison Dearborn Partners, Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Wilson Elser.
An active member of his community, Mr. Gerber is the former President of the John Buck Company Foundation and the former Board Chair of LEARN Charter School Network. He is committed to serving many civic and charitable groups and currently supports New Schools for Chicago, Noble Street Charter Schools, Boys Hope Girls Hope, Teach For America and the Chicago Architectural Foundation.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Webster College in St. Louis, Missouri.
Said Executive Vice President and Branch Manager – Chicago, John Goodman, “Greg was instrumental in growing Studley’s Chicago office in the 90’s. We are thrilled he has rejoined our team.”
