Long-time New York real estate professional Judd Meltzer has joined Studley and will be operating out of the firm’s Downtown Los Angeles and New York offices.
Mr. Meltzer started in the commercial real estate industry in 1970 and became one of Manhattan’s most well-known and well-respected independent commercial real estate consultants, advising leading companies like global reinsurer Swiss Re, VNU America, Continental Grain Company and investment management firm Alliance Bernstein (formerly Alliance Capital) among others.
“I am a puzzle solver, a chess player, who sees the final move at the opening play,” Mr. Meltzer admitted. “I love helping businesses solve their real estate challenges…for me, the more complex, the better.”
“I chose to join Studley for several reasons,” explained Mr. Meltzer. “First, I relish the thought of being able to work with my son Joshua, who has been with Studley for the past two years. Studley’s approach to representing tenants as both advisors and consultants reflects the manner in which my business has been conducted for more than 30 years. I have never considered myself a traditional broker; my clients’ allegiances to me come from developing strategies and giving sound counsel whose true value comes to fruition years later as they put into play the deals previously negotiated.”
“I am thrilled to have my esteemed colleague, Judd Meltzer, join Studley,” shared Studley Chairman and CEO Mitchell S. Steir. “I have known him for almost 30 years and respect him and the way he services his clients. I look forward to working with him and know that he will be an asset to Studley companywide.”
Mr. Meltzer started in the commercial real estate industry working for Wolf and Macklowe. In 1978, Mr. Meltzer established his own company, Judd S. Meltzer Co. Inc.
Some of his most notable accomplishments include: representing Swiss Re for more than 20 years with various consolidations and expansions in the United States in excess of 1 million square feet; Alliance Capital worldwide for 25 years with over 2 million square feet, culminating in the expansion and extension of its lease at 1345 Avenue of the Americas for 944,000 square feet.
More recently, Mr. Meltzer advised the Bauman family in the disposition of its interests in 550 Washington Street (nearly 1.3 million square feet) and the Coach Building at 516 West 34th Street.
