Since joining the firm in 1994, Art has become an integral member of the Washington, DC, office as one of Savills leading experts in structuring large complex transactions. To date, he has negotiated more than 15 million square feet of real estate transactions for media, technology, life science and biotechnology corporations, as well as law firms, government entities and nonprofit organizations. His specialties include build-to-suits, lease restructures, joint ventures, new leases, acquisitions and dispositions. When advising clients, Art utilizes his expertise in financial structuring, market research and insight, strategic planning and lease negotiation to structure flexible, cost-effective transactions.

Art’s signature transactions include the 420,000-square-foot lease for Covington, the sale of Marriott International’s headquarters, the 560,000-square-foot acquisition of AARP’s headquarters, the acquisition of land for the development of a new 400,000- square-foot headquarters for National Public Radio and the sale/leaseback of its old headquarters. He has also completed numerous transactions for the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.

Prior to joining Savills, Art’s distinguished career included serving as senior vice president and CFO for Sequoia Building Corporation where he was responsible for negotiating over $1 billion of debt and equity placements. He also served as vice president and CFO of a 4,000-employee defense contracting subsidiary of a public company and he was a senior manager at Deloitte & Touche.

Awards, Achievements and Activities

Art’s corporate board experience includes American Trading and Production Corporation, where he is a board member, investment committee member and chair of the audit committee. His nonprofit board experience includes Commercial Real Estate Brokerage Association of Greater Washington (CREBA), Lakewood Country Club, and Jewish Camp and Conference Center.

CREBA awarded Art the ‘Transaction of the Year’ eight times, ‘Top Leasing Award Regional’ twice, ‘Top Leasing Award Maryland’ twice and ‘Broker of the Year.’ The Washington Business Journal recognized him for the ‘Land Sale of the Year’ and ‘New Development of the Year.’ And the Washington, DC, chapter of NAIOP awarded Art the ‘Award of Excellence” twice.
