Art is a transaction expert with special focus on financial structuring, build-to-suits and complex transactions with experience in associations/not-for-profits, law firms and corporate clients.

Professional Expertise

Since joining the firm in 1994, Art has developed a reputation as one of the Savills Studley’s leading experts in structuring large complex transactions. To date, he has negotiated more than eight million square feet of real estate transactions for corporations, law firms and not-for profit clients. His specialties include build-to-suits, lease restructures, joint ventures, traditional leases, and sales and acquisitions.

Art’s signature transactions include the 775,000-square-foot lease restructure of Marriott International’s headquarters, the 560,000-square-foot acquisition of AARP’s headquarters, the acquisition of land for the development of a new 400,000-square-foot headquarters for National Public Radio and the sale/leaseback of its old headquarters. He has also completed numerous transactions for the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.

Prior to joining Savills Studley, Art’s distinguished career included serving as: Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for a real estate developer where he was responsible for negotiating over $1 billion of debt and equity placements; Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of a 4,000-employee defense contracting subsidiary of UNC, Inc. (NYSE:UNC, until its acquisition by GE); Vice President and General Manager of the aircraft leasing subsidiary of UNC; and Senior Manager at Deloitte & Touche.

Activities & Achievements

The Greater Washington Commercial Association of Realtors (GWCAR) has honored Art six times with its prestigious “Transaction of the Year” award for his work representing AARP, Accenture, American Trucking Associations, Covington, Marriott International, and National Public Radio.

Outside of the office, Art serves as a board member of American Trading and Production Company, a diversified holding company with interests in real estate, public equities and private equity, and is the chairman of its audit committee and a member of its investment committee.


Art earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maryland and is a Certified Public Accountant.
