Professional Expertise

Gary Stein is an executive vice president in Savills Studley’s Washington DC office.  A 31-year veteran of the industry, he advises commercial tenants throughout the DC metropolitan area while also counseling clients on corporate real estate transactions throughout the United States.

Prior to re-joining Savills Studley, Gary spent nearly five years as the managing principal of Cresa Washington, DC, an office he opened in 2008.  While at Cresa, Mr. Stein was responsible for several of the firm’s most notable transactions in the region including the National Association of Manufacturers’ 42,000 square foot lease; Business Roundtable’s 26,000-square-foot lease; and National Democratic Institute’s 57,000 square foot lease.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Stein has successfully completed more than 500 transactions totaling 9.5 million square feet of office space on behalf of law firms, trade associations, non-profit organizations and corporations in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.   His roster of local and national clients includes the American Society for Microbiology, Davis Polk & Wardwell, Hollingsworth LLP, Faegre Baker Daniels, America’s Health Insurance Plans, Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board, Omidyar Network and Goodwin Procter.

Prior to becoming a tenant advisor, Mr. Stein practiced real estate law at Shulman, Rogers, Gandal, Pordy & Ecker P.A. for seven years.  He is a member of the Maryland Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

Activities & Achievements

Gary is a 30-year veteran of basketball officiating, and has been recognized as one of the top basketball officials in the Washington, DC area.  He has officiated numerous WCAC and IAC championship games and is regularly selected to officiate MPSSA tournament games.  He also coached AAU basketball teams for nine years, including a 16 and under National Championship in 2006.

Education

Mr. Stein received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Tulane University and a J.D. from the Washington College of Law at American University.
