Silliker Inc., a food research and testing division of Lyon, France-based Mérieux NutriSciences Corp., has broken ground on a 71,000-square-foot laboratory building here. The $10 million building will be a consolidation of the company’s two current Illinois facilities in Chicago Heights and South Holland.
Robert Sevim of Studley, who with Rich Dale advised the company on the development, tells GlobeSt.com that this building will be one of the largest food testing labs in the United States. Though there’s much small industrial available in the Chicago area, Sevim says the company realized it would be cheaper to build new.
“The issue isn’t about finding an empty building,” he says. “When you look at the cost of retrofitting, the choices are few and far between.” ...
