The commercial real estate brokerage scene continues to see Austin real estate companies up their game as competition for business becomes more acute.

Cresa Partners, a Boston-based tenant representation firm, has elevated three advisers to the position of principal and added a fourth person as an adviser.

Meanwhile, Berkadia and the affiliated Hendricks-Berkadia are making a play for a greater share of the multifamily investment market in Austin.

At Cresa, Fred Placke, Stayton Wright and Andy Carlson now are principals. Matt Valdez joins the company following several years in public affairs consulting.

“Stayton, Andy and Fred have earned the opportunity to assume leadership roles in the office,” said Chris Marchbanks, managing principal in Austin. “Matt’s hiring demonstrates our commitment to increase the size of our office.”

New tenant representation firms such as KMD Studley are angling to secure market share while some veteran tenant rep brokers recently have started a local branch of Colliers International. Meanwhile, longstanding local tenant-rep firm Commercial Texas LLC was acquired by the Canadian company Avison Young with an eye toward leveraging a global platform.
